ETUD foundation presents:
festival ETUD AND FRIENDS – fifth edition
September – November 2020
Festival “Etud and friends” is supported by the Culture Program of Sofia Municipality for 2018 and Foundation Etud. In partnership with DNK- Space for contemporary dance and performance and gallery Etud.
“Etud and Friends” festival already exists as an established platform for visionaries, Bulgarian and foreign, who observe in different evenings (united in a festival form) the variety of dance, different tastes and artistic points of view.
The Festival started in 2016 as an initiative of the choreographer Galina Borissova and Ani Collier, founder of the Etud Foundation. The original idea was to present premieres to Bulgarian artists from the independent scene, as well as to Bulgarian artists living abroad. Priority is also given to the productions that the Etud Foundation has supported financially or with space during the year – the Etud Gallery. So far, more than 30 solo performances and several concert nights with various short choreographies have taken part. The festival program also has its international involvement, partnering with companies from Europe and the USA, with whom we have worked on various co-projects over the years.
The 5th edition of the festival will feature works by three choreographers from Europe: a new premiere of Tana Maneva and Rickard Borgard from Stockholm, Olof Pershon with the trio As Three of Us and Gun Lund from Gothenburg with 3rd Movement. We will also present a special evening dedicated to Vaslav Nijinsky, when we will show four Bulgarian choreographies: Mila Iskrenova with the ballet “Arabesk” – “The Afternoon of a Faun”, Rossen Mihailov’s “Breakfast on the Grass with One Faun”, as well as two premieres of Meteor organization (Ani Vaseva, Leonid Yovchev) and Galina Borissova in partnership with Willy Prager.
The festival program will continue with a concert evening featuring short choreographies by Ani Collier (USA / BG), Tzveta Kassabova (USA / BG), Boryana Sechanova, Miriam Engel (Israel) and others. We are also about to partner with Sofia International Film Festival, where we will present a new film about Isadora Duncan: “Isadora’s Children” by Damien Manivel. The program of the festival includes an exhibition by Ani Collier and a concert by the Swedish composer Rickard Borgard at the Black Flamingo bar.
